This includes knowledge and skills gained within school, college and university and outside formal learning situations as through life and work experiences.
RPL is a concept that enables individuals to have their learning and experiences recognized for a number of purposes which can benefit the individual, employers and the economy, it includes:
- RPL for personal or career development;
- RPL to gain entry to an award or qualification;
- RPL for the award of credit points to gain exemption from parts of an existing programme of study or to gain entry with advanced standing; and to award vocational qualifications after assessment to specific occupational standards.
Pedagogy And Andragogy
Employing professional techniques in in depth teaching children and adults
Pedagogy And Andragogy
Pedagogy is the art and science of teaching children, where the teacher is the authority figure directing the learning process. Andragogy is the method for teaching adults, which emphasizes the learner's self-direction, life experiences, and internal motivation. The key difference is the role of the learner: dependent and guided in pedagogy, and autonomous and self-directed in andragogy.
-
Learner:
Dependent on the teacher for knowledge and direction.
-
Teacher's role:
The teacher is the central authority figure who determines what, how, and when learning occurs.
-
Learning experience:
Typically more formal and structured, focused on the teacher as the primary source of information.
-
Motivation:
Often driven by external factors, such as advancing to the next stage of education.
-
Learner:
Independent and self-directed, with a wealth of life experience to draw from.
-
Teacher's role:
A facilitator who guides and supports the learner, but the learner takes responsibility for their own learning.
-
Learning experience:
Emphasizes problem-solving and is often hands-on and experiential, with learning tailored to the learner's needs.
-
Motivation:Driven by internal factors, such as a need to know something to perform a task more effectively or for professional development.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What is RPL?
RPL is a method of recognising previous learning or attainment to meet current requirement; or a method of assessment leading to the award of credit that considers whether learners can demonstrate that they can meet the assessment requirements for a unit through knowledge, behaviors, skills and understanding they already possess and so may not need to develop these through a course of learning.
